Curious Corner

Explain Anything: ask any "why does…?"

A SparkIQ maths lesson: the child answers 6.2 + 4.7 with 10.09; the tutor says 'Not quite — line up the decimal points', then offers to crack it together and asks 'Where would you start, or what do you notice first?'
The tutor

It asks before it tells.

Like a patient 1:1 tutor, SparkIQ helps your child find the answer themselves, which is how it sticks. When they're stuck, help arrives in gentle steps.

  1. A hintA small nudge in the right direction, like "line up the decimal points".

  2. A guiding question"What do you notice first?" Thinking out loud, together.

  3. The worked solution, after genuine triesShown step by step, then saved for spaced review so it stays learned.

The Practice papers screen: full, timed, original exam-style papers such as Selective Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills, clearly labelled as not real past papers.
A timed practice question: a reading vocabulary-in-context item with four multiple-choice options and a note that the paper is original, exam-style material.
Exam prep

Calm, confident practice for the big tests.

Timed practice papers in the style of NAPLAN, OC and Selective tests, freshly generated each time, with pacing and worked solutions.

NAPLAN-style OC-style Selective-style
  • Timed, with pacing. Learn to bank a guess and keep moving.
  • Worked solutions. Every wrong answer is explained and saved for review.
  • Writing feedback and an exam coach for strategy and staying calm.

All practice papers are original, exam-style material, not real or official past papers. SparkIQ isn't affiliated with NESA, ACARA or any exam authority and can't promise results. Check the official sources for current formats.

Motivation without guilt

Rewards that feel good. Never guilt.

Kids earn and grow, but nothing is ever taken away. Rewards are capped per session, and when it's time for a break, SparkIQ says so and celebrates stopping.

Daily SparkAbout five minutes a day, then done.

What we'll never do

  • Loss-framed streaks
  • Guilt trips to come back
  • Endless feeds
  • Unlimited reward loops

Coming back after a break? They get a warm welcome, not a lecture.

The SparkIQ parent dashboard: an option to see progress on your own phone with an end-to-end encrypted private link, a weekly summary table, and learning level by subject showing Maths on track with Fractions strong and Place value to practise.
End-to-end encrypted phone view
For parents

See real progress, not just screen time.

A clear, honest picture of how your child is going, and exactly how SparkIQ is adapting to them.

  • Progress by subject compared with their year level.
  • Learning pace, what they're strong at, and what to practise next.
  • A safety log so you can see if anything needed care.
  • Your own phone view: a private, end-to-end encrypted, view-only link. It can't change anything.
  • A 💬 feedback button on every page, for kids and parents.
Safety & privacy

We designed for child safety first, features second.

Specific promises you can check for yourself in the app's Parents area.

We barely know your child

A child profile is a nickname and school year. No real name, photo, birthday or location.

No ads. No trackers. No data sale.

No advertising, no third-party trackers and no marketing profiles, ever.

Progress stays on the device

Learning data stays on your device unless you turn on the parent phone view, which is end-to-end encrypted.

An AI helper with guard rails

It runs on Cloudflare Workers AI, which states it doesn't use what's sent to train AI. The nickname is removed before anything is sent, and phone numbers, emails and addresses are blocked.

Fixed child-safety rules on our server, a check on every reply, and daily usage caps.

You can switch AI off

Go to Parents → AI → Built-in (offline). Tutoring, adapting and practice all keep working without it. AI can sometimes be wrong, so it's a helper, not the final word.

Parents hold the keys

Settings and payments sit behind a parent PIN, so kids can't change them.

Care is built in. If a child ever expresses distress, SparkIQ gently points them to a trusted adult and to Kids Helpline.

For comparison, a private tutor in Sydney typically costs $60–120 an hour. SparkIQ supports learning. It doesn't replace teachers or promise exam results.

We're looking for trial families.

SparkIQ is in early access, and your feedback decides what we build next. Try it with your child, then tell us what worked, what didn't, and what you wish it did.

You can also tap the 💬 Feedback tab on any screen in the app. Kids just tap a face, with no names and no typing.

Questions

Good questions from careful parents.

What do you know about my child?

Only a nickname and a school year (plus the curriculum). No real name, photo, birthday or location. A parent email is the only real identifier, and only if you choose to use it. There are no ads, no third-party trackers and no data sale.

Progress stays on the device unless you turn on the parent phone view, which is end-to-end encrypted.

How does the AI work, and can I turn it off?

The core tutoring, adapting and practice run in the app itself, even offline. For open-ended "why does…?" questions there's an AI helper that runs on Cloudflare Workers AI, which states it doesn't use what's sent to train AI. Your child's nickname is removed first, contact details are blocked, and fixed child-safety rules and daily caps apply on our server.

Prefer no AI? In the app, go to Parents → AI and choose Built-in (offline).

Are the exam papers real past papers?

No. They're original, exam-style practice in the style of NAPLAN, OC and Selective tests, freshly generated each time. SparkIQ isn't affiliated with NESA, ACARA or any exam authority and doesn't guarantee results. For official formats and past papers, please check the relevant authority.

How much does it cost?

It's free to start, with no account or card. The Learner plan is $179 a year or $19.99 a month per child. Exam Prep is $299 a year per child, or a 16-week Exam Season Pass for $149. Prices are in AUD and include GST.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time. Plans and payments sit behind your parent PIN, so only you can change them.

Which devices does it work on?

Any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen like an app, and the core learning works offline. The AI helper needs an internet connection.

What if my child is upset or says something worrying?

SparkIQ responds gently, encourages them to talk to a trusted adult, and shares Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800). The parent area includes a safety log so you know when something needed care.
